One thing we hear a lot around here at your Chevy dealership is folks wondering which Silverado fits them best. So, we figured we’d break it down and make it easier to find the one that’s right for you.

The 2025 Silverado 1500 vs. the 2025 Silverado 2500 HD in santa fe new mexico

Engine Options and Power

Chevy gives you four engine options for the Silverado 1500: a 310-hp 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four, a 305-hp 3.0-liter Duramax diesel inline-six (offers the best gas mileage and torque), a 355-hp 5.3-liter V8, and a 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. The 2.7-liter comes with an eight-speed automatic, while the rest are matched to Chevy’s smooth-shifting ten-speed transmission.

The 2500 HD’s engine options are much simpler: a 6.6-liter gas V8 with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque or a Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 that puts out 470 hp and a massive 975 lb-ft of torque. The legendary Allison ten-speed automatic comes standard with the Duramax and is available with the gas engine.

Towing

Depending on how you spec it, the Silverado 1500 can tow anywhere from 8,700 to 13,300 pounds. The highest tow rating comes from the 3.0-liter diesel paired with either the Double Cab or Crew Cab, both with a short bed and 2WD. The off-road-focused ZR2 trim, available as short bed 4WD with either the diesel or the gas V8, has the lowest towing capacity in the lineup.

To unlock the Silverado 2500 HD’s max 22,420-pound towing capacity, you’ll need the regular cab, long bed, 2WD, Duramax engine, Max Trailering Package, and a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. If you go with the most basic setup, i.e., the 2.7-liter engine, 17-inch wheels, standard tow hitch, and your choice of bed, drive system, and cab, you’re still looking at a respectable 14,500 pounds of towing muscle.

Daily Use

The Silverado 1500 is designed for everyday driving. It’s got an independent coil-over-shock front suspension, which means it doesn’t crash over bumps or jiggle your coffee every time you hit a pothole. It’s also easier to climb into, gentler at the pump, and a lot friendlier in parking lots.

On the other hand, the 2500 HD is built for good old hard work. Its multi-leaf rear springs shine when there’s serious weight in the back, but when it’s empty, the ride can feel a bit stiff. But that’s the tradeoff for a truck that’s always ready to roll up its sleeves and get to work.

Capability comes standard, no matter which Silverado you choose. Reach out to Chevrolet of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, NM, to reserve yours.
